2009 Health Requirements

  • No alpaca will be admitted to the fairgrounds unless it meets the requirements below
  • No alpaca is to be unloaded until it Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (Health Papers) has been inspected and approved for entry to the facility
  • To expedite check-in please bring a copy of your Certificate of Veterinary Inspection

All alpacas must be in proper physical condition, be properly identified with microchip and free of visual evidence of infectious, contagious, or parasitic disease at time of arrival. Any evidence of an alpaca having questionable health, or failure to produce the necessary documents for health certification will result in the animal being refused for entry and may result in the farm’s dismissal from the show – the inspector’s decision is final.

FOR ALL ALPACAS:
  • Valid Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) signed by an accredited veterinarian certifying that the animals are clinically free of infectious or contagious diseases and exposure from such disease. Health certificates must be completed not more than 30 days prior to the last day of the show
  • Microchip number of each alpaca shall be listed on the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection – please check the microchip numbers on your animals ahead of time and make sure that the correct number has been listed on the CVI.
  • Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) testing is required using a PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) or VI (Virus Isolation) test. Alpacas that have been tested by another method will not be allowed entry into any AOBA Certified Show. This is a one-time test. For the purposes of any AOBA Certified Show, once this test has been done, it need not be repeated.
  • YOUR CVI MUST LIST THE TYPE OF TEST USED ("PCR" or "VI") AND THE RESULTS ("Negative" or "BVDV Not Detected")
