2008 Alpaca Health Requirements

No alpaca will be admitted to the fairgrounds unless it meets the requirements below. No alpaca is to be unloaded until its Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (Health Papers) has been inspected and approved for entry to the facility.

TO EXPEDITE CHECK IN PLEASE BRING COPIES OF HEALTH CERTIFICATE AND NEGATIVE BVDV WITH A PCR TEST SIGNED BY LICENCED VETERINARIAN. *

All alpacas must be in proper physical condition, be properly identified with microchip and free of visual evidence of infectious, contagious, or parasitic disease at time of arrival. Any evidence of an alpaca having questionable health, or failure to produce the necessary documents for health certification will result in the animal being refused for entry and may result in the farm’s dismissal from the show. The inspector's decision is final.

For ALL Alpacas:
  • Valid Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) signed by an accredited veterinarian certifying that the animals are clinically free of infectious or contagious diseases and exposure from such disease. Health certificates must be dated October 3, 2008 or later.
  • Microchip Number of each alpaca shall be listed on the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.
  • Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) testing is required using a PCR or VI test. A single test in the lifetime of the animal is sufficient.
  • The negative PCR or VI BVDV test must be stated on the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection. This CVI (health papers) must be presented to the show superintendent for their permanent records.
